Ideal leather bitless noseband has been designed to create as little pressure as possible. The crossunder noseband steers the pony through pushing rather than pulling.

With a crossunder design of the bitless noseband will feel like a halter to the pony, however, as a driver it will feel like a bridle. The noseband attaches to the bridle at the cheekpiece rather than the bit and the crossunder ropes allow the pony to be steered by a gentle nudge on the opposite side of the face.
